John is a previous Irish international athlete in the 400m Hurdles with a wealth of experience in high performance and rehabilitation. While on a sporting scholarship at Dublin City University, John graduated with a BSc. Honours degree in Sports Science and Health in 2013 before deciding to completing a Masters in Physiotherapy at the Robert Gordon University, Scotland. While studying in Scotland, John turned his attention from the running track towards his clinical placements as a physiotherapy student. He gained a vast amount of experience working in the NHS under Senior Physiotherapists and Consultants.
Following Johns completion in Scotland, John returned to Dublin where he joined the Platinum Pilates family. Committed to expanding his understanding of movement and rehabilitation, John dedicated himself to working with Reformer and Matt Pilates where he studied to become a certified Reformer Polestar Pilates Instructor. John continues to teach at our Rathmines studio and you will see him in Clonskeagh from time to time.
During his time studying, John gained the opportunity to work with Paul Doyle. Paul is one of the most highly-respected managers and coaches in Track and Field. With Paul, John gained experience with Olympic and World Champion athletes including Avard Moncur (2001 400m World Championship Gold). Following Johns Physiotherapy Degree, while working along side Platinum, John served under world renowned Neuromuscular Physical Therapist Anthony Geoghegan. During this time, John gained experience of analyzing and treating complex muscular and neuromuscular dysfunction from amateur athletes to world champions such as World indoor long jump champion, Marquis Dendy (2016 World indoor long jump gold) and Trayvon Bromell (2016 World indoor 60m Gold).
Currently, John continues to expand his knowledge with the Senior Platinum Physiotherapy team with weekly in-services and journal clubs. He hope to show clients that understanding the cause of their problems is the first step in curing any issues. John believes that Reformer Pilates and specialized rehabilitation programs are the first steps to recovery. John takes a hands on approach to his treatment however and believes that with guidance from physiotherapy, forming long term habits are the best approach to both prevention and cure for many common muscular and neuromuscular conditions.
