Tipples Top Tips for the Festive Period.

The legendary Elaine Tipple gives you her run down for staying stress free of the festive period.

With the countdown to Christmas … what’s your top tip for clients to get them ready for party season?

Keep hydrated! Staying hydrated is one of the most important ways to stay healthy, especially at Christmas time when the annual excesses, tend to leave us feeling sluggish, bloated & tired. Alcohol, festive treats and snacks ( loaded with salt & sugar), late nights – coupled with our cold, wintertime weather, can leave us dehydrated and below par. Ensure you drink plenty of water and try herbal teas and fruit infusions in place of too much tea or coffee. Optimal hydration will help detoxify our systems, keep us energized and also help us function better at home, work or play!

For someone starting out into fitness would they be better waiting until January to get moving?

Absolutely not! – get in ahead of the herd and establish a basic fitness routine that is easy to commit to on a regular basis. By the New Year you can be ready to progress it’s intensity, knowing you have done the groundwork. I believe too, that keeping yourself active in the lead up to (and during) Christmas, helps fight any inclinations you might get to letting your good intentions slide under the Christmas buffet table or bar!

What is “Tipple’s top tip” to keep stress at bay over the holiday season.

There are absolutely days when the more maddening elements of Christmastime seem to overtake the true spirit of the of the season – overspending, over-cooking, over-indulging, over-stimulated/-tired children, over-annoying visitors, hungover ..etc!!

I am a big believer in the simple act of stepping outdoors for 1 minute, looking upward into sky, taking a few deep breaths and finding a silver lining in the thing, situation or person that happens to be stressing you out at that particular moment in time. It works a treat!

Do you eat clean & healthy over Christmas or will you over indulge like the rest of us?

I eat healthily probably about 75% of Christmas, because I just can’t bear how yuck I feel when I overdo it!!! I will enjoy all the trimmings and treats for about  2- 3 days and then clean my diet up a little. The wines take a little longer to forgo, given the social aspect of Christmastime but once New Years Day arrives, alcohol is knocked on the head for a while and there is focus on eating well to get through the last weeks of winter, and to be Spring ready!

How do you stay on top of your workout routine over the festive season?  

I actually love to buddy up with fellow teachers in Platinum and jumping into some classes on our schedule..also, having to practice routines for teaching means I always fit something in, no matter how brief, most days of the week. I also rope in a buddy for my gym sessions to make sure I  don’t cry off and go Christmas shopping instead.
