Dehydration, Headaches, Vomiting & The Fear!
With the festive season in full swing, We may have all over indulged in a a few too many adult beverages and paid the price the next day. Here at Platinum we know how you feel, It’s not all selfies and lettuce leafs as Instagram lets on!
Here we delve into what causes a hangover and my top tips for curing one.
What is a Hangover?
Hangovers come in many shapes and sizes and are never the same. The staying in bed and wishing the room would stop spinning to being so full of fear you feel like Britney Spears circa 2007. There are many factors that contribute to hangovers, ranging from simple dehydration to the extreme vomiting and nausea.
How can you cure the Hangover?
There are many, many “cures” for a hangover. From the firm favourite Big Mac to taking Dioralyte the night before, But what really works? We took it upon ourselves to go out and drink to excess and come up with our official list of Hangover cures.
Exercise – The number one cure. No better way than to sweat it out of you. A Cardio Jumpboard class would be the Teams Top Tip to help rid the body of those alcoholic toxins . Just remember that one of the main factors of a hangover is dehydration, so you need to ensure you drink lots of water while sweating out the badness! That hour class might seem like the last thing you want to do but trust us, you will feel a million times better. Better still, exercise releases endorphins, and endorphins make people happy (thanks Elle Woods.) That happy feeling post class will make the fear recede back where it belongs!
Water – Hydration, Hydration, Hydration! We can’t push enough how important water is. It’s all very well saying have a glass of water before you go to bed, but if like me you’re face down in a bag of chips, try and have a bottle of water by your bed and start drinking as soon as you wake up. While a cup of tea might sound epic, caffeine is best avoided when hungover! It will initially make you feel better but that will fade quickly. Fizzy drinks hit the spot but you can’t beat water!
Food – While you might not feel like eating first thing in the morning try and get food into you as quick as possible. Ideally try and eat you water. Foods like cucumber, bananas and fish can all help the symptoms, but a big fry up or plate of stodgy food can work just as well. The worst thing you can do is wallow in hangover hell on an empty stomach.
Don’t drink – The only sure fire way to avoid a hangover is to avoid the alcohol.
