What’s for dinner Dearbhla?

Is there such a thing as the ‘perfect diet’? We interviewed four Platinum instructors: Will, Victoria, Dearbhla and Damy about their diets, and we couldn’t have expected more diverse replies. Here’s Dearbhla’s take on on all things food!

Hi there! Please introduce yourself, your name, your favourite hobby, your favourite colour, favourite movie, and so far, the highlight of your week.

Hey hey it’s Dearbhla. My favourite colour is PINK (no surprise there). My favourite movie is a tie between Almost Famous, Carrie and Rules of Attraction. The highlight of my week was finally becoming a resident of Dublin’s Fair City. My hobbies include dancing on every flat surface that I encounter and generally being embarrassing in public.

How would you describe your food personality?

Plant based nourishment is best baby!

What is your favourite time of day?

I’m an early bird, catching that worm like it ain’t no thing!

Some say breakfast is the most important meal of the day do you agree and what did you have for breakfast this morning?

Breakfast is my favourite time of the day. I’m a morning person and I generally wake up eager to seize the day. I almost never take less than 30 minutes to eat my breakfast, I consider it a mini event. This morning I had porridge made with almond milk, ground flaxseed and mashed banana followed by two (yes TWO) soya yogurts.

Sweet or Savoury?

I would get far more excited about a good sandwich than I would about a cake but I am a fiend for Bourbon Creams.

Your absolute favourite food of all time is?

If you had a private chef, what types of food would they cook for you if you could have absolutely anything?

Carbs and plants and carbs and plants.

We’re eating out for your birthday, where are we going?

How often do you exercise in an average week

At least once a day 7 days a week.

How do you fuel up for your training, and are you training for something in particular?

I believe that a high fibre diet is what keeps my metabolism ticking over so quickly.

What’s always on your shopping list when you go to the supermarket? What can’t you live without?

Bread (carb queen).

Describe your average dinner time scenario, the food, the people the chaos?

I believe in taking time out to eat. Clear a space, sit down, take your time to enjoy and digest your food. I grew up in a family where dinner time was a social occasion so it’s phones away, appreciate the food, talk to one another.

Do you do meal prep?

I’m not great at planning and prepping my meals but if I’m going to be out of the house all day I have to bring snacks with me as it can be tricky to find decent vegan foods.
