An energy snack made with clean nutritious ingredients

My biggest downfall when trying to stick to healthy eating routine is snacks. When I am rushing around or on the go, its easy to pick high sugar treats to keep you going until the next meal. In a bid to avoid this, I started experimenting with different energy snack recipes made with clean nutritious ingredients. This is definitely the best and easiest recipe I discovered.

Healthy granola barsThese granola bars are made simply using mashed banana, oats, nuts, seeds, dried berries and raisins. The bananas and dried berries add a natural sweetness making you feel like you are having a sneaky treat, while the oats and nuts provide you with slow releasing energy to help you through the day.

The recipe can be altered to your taste buds, simply play around with what nuts, seeds and berries you use to get a whole new bar.

Each bar contains 114 calories mainly made up of carbohydrates and fats which makes them ideal to fuel before or refuel after your Pilates classes

Ingredients (recipe yields about 15 bars)
2 large ripe bananas mashed
1/2 cup dried berries such as cranberries (or mixed dried fruit works well)
1/2 cup sesame seeds
1 cup mixed seeds (I used pumpkin and sunflower seeds)
2 cups oats
1/2 cup Almonds (or nut of choice)
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon Vanilla extract

  • Preheat oven to 180 degrees.
  • Mix all ingredients in a large bowl.
  • Pour mixture onto a lined baking tray, spread as thick as you would like the bars to be
  • Put in oven fro 20-25 minutes until golden brown
