With the countdown to Christmas what’s your top tip for clients to get them ready for party season?
With Christmas only around the corner, December can be a really exciting and busy time of year. Don’t forget to prioritise what you enjoy. I think it’s so important to keep consistent with your exercise whatever that might be, whether it’s a short walk, or a Pilates class or gym session or a cycle to work, keep it up this month!
If you’re struggling with time management try not to sacrifice your time for some healthy movement. Not only will you benefit from exercise on a physical level but it will put you in the right head space for the busy month that it is.
For someone starting out into fitness would they be better waiting until January to get moving?
The great thing about exercise is that you instantly feel the benefits. Both your mind and body will feel reenergised and revitalised from something as simple as a stretch or a walk. So why wait until January when you can avail of these benefits today!
Christmas can be such a busy time of the year, give your body every opportunity to feel good. I say go out for that walk, try your first Pilates class, join a gym, or even do a stretch at your desk! If nothing else it will prepare you for January. Think of December as your practice run up to January. Try little snippets of it all and you’ll hit the ground running come January!
Top tip to keep stress at bay over the holiday season?
‘NO’ is a full sentence. Sometimes we can get so busy we forget to prioritise some time for ourselves. Don’t say yes to everything this month. If you would rather sit in and do a puzzle or drink tea instead of attending that Christmas Party that you were kindly invited to than just say no. This will also allow you to really look forward to the things that you say yes to. Remember you’re only one person, you don’t have to do it all! I try not to over commit myself to too many things which gives me some time to myself. I love to go for walk and listen to some music, and I also love to put my feet up by the fire and watch Christmas movies. These help me to keep stress at bay.
Do you eat clean and healthy over Christmas or will you over indulge like the rest of us?
I definitely like to indulge a bit and enjoy good food over Christmas, not to mention chocolate, chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. For me the trick is not to starve myself and then binge but to enjoy it all in moderation. But a bit of extra chocolate over Christmas isn’t going to destroy your fitness goals, so enjoy that selection box.
What’s at the top of your Christmas wish list this year…?
Besides a new car and a million euro… I am going to wish for another year surrounded by healthy and happy friends and family.
