What is Emsella.
What is Emsella?
Emsella is a non-invasive treatment that utilizes High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology to help restore and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. Designed for both men and women, Emsella offers a comfortable and convenient solution for those experiencing symptoms of pelvic floor weakness, including urinary incontinence, urgency, reduced core stability, and changes in pelvic support.
During a single 28 minute session, Emsella stimulates thousands of supramaximal pelvic floor muscle contractions the equivalent of approximately 11,000 Kegel exercises. These powerful contractions go far beyond what can be achieved through voluntary exercise alone, helping to re-educate the muscles and improve neuromuscular control. By targeting the entire pelvic floor and surrounding support structures, Emsella helps rebuild strength from the inside out, supporting better bladder control, enhanced pelvic stability, and improved overall quality of life.
Restore Control & Confidence
The treatment is completely non-invasive, requires no downtime, and is performed while you remain fully clothed, seated comfortably on the Emsella chair. Many clients find the treatment easy to fit into their busy schedules, making it an accessible option for those seeking effective pelvic floor rehabilitation without surgery, medication, or lengthy recovery periods.
At Platinum Pilates, Emsella can be paired with expert-led reformer Pilates training to further support pelvic floor recovery and long-term strength. While Emsella helps activate and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, Pilates focuses on improving core control, posture, breathing mechanics, and functional movement patterns. Together, these approaches create a comprehensive strategy for enhancing pelvic health, restoring confidence, and helping you move through daily life with greater comfort and control.

- Urinary control issues: urine leakage when coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising, or lifting, as well as sudden, strong urges to urinate that are difficult to control.
- Frequent urination: needing to urinate more often than usual, including waking up during the night to use the bathroom.
- Bowel difficulties: difficulty emptying the bowels completely, constipation, or needing to strain excessively during bowel movements.
- Sexual symptoms: discomfort during sexual activity and/or reduced sensation during intercourse.
- Reduced pelvic support and stability: feeling unstable or lacking support through the pelvis and core.
- Pelvic organ prolapse symptoms: a bulging or visible bulge sensation, along with feelings of heaviness, pressure, discomfort, or a dragging or dropping sensation in the pelvic area. In women, this is often felt in the vagina, while in men it may be experienced in the rectum or as a persistent sensation of needing to empty the bowels without relief.
FAQ's
Emsella is suitable for both men and women experiencing symptoms of pelvic floor weakness. This includes stress incontinence related to menopause or childbirth, urinary leakage during activities such as laughing, coughing, sneezing, or exercising, sudden and intense urges to urinate, and general pelvic floor weakening caused by factors such as ageing, weight fluctuations, or chronic coughing.
It may also benefit individuals dealing with a wider range of pelvic health concerns, including pelvic discomfort, pain during sexual intercourse, pelvic organ prolapse, involuntary flatulence, and difficulty fully emptying the bladder or bowel. Emsella offers a non-invasive option to help improve pelvic floor strength, function, and overall quality of life.
Emsella is not suitable for individuals who are pregnant or who have recently given birth (within the past three months). It is also not recommended for those with certain implanted medical devices, including cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators, electronic implants, or drug pumps. People with metal implants such as titanium hip replacements, pulmonary insufficiency, bleeding disorders, or those currently undergoing anticoagulation therapy should also avoid treatment.
In addition, Emsella is not advised for individuals with a copper IUD (although Mirena coils are generally considered safe), active cancer, or recent surgical procedures in the treatment area. A full medical consultation is always recommended beforehand to ensure the treatment is safe and appropriate for each individual.
Each Emsella treatment session lasts 28 minutes. For your initial appointment, please allow approximately 40 minutes in total to accommodate a consultation prior to treatment, ensuring a full assessment. A full treatment course consists of 6 sessions, typically scheduled twice weekly over a 3-week period.
Initial improvements are often noticed after just 1–2 sessions, particularly in areas such as bladder control and reduced urgency. However, optimal results are typically achieved after completing a full course of 6 sessions, usually scheduled twice per week over 3 weeks. For many patients, the full benefits continue to develop, with maximum improvement often felt around 4–6 weeks after the final treatment as muscle tone and neuromuscular control continue to strengthen.
In some cases, top-up sessions may be recommended every few months, particularly for long-term or more chronic concerns. Results can vary depending on factors such as the severity and type of pelvic floor dysfunction, age and hormonal status (including menopause), adherence to the full treatment plan, and whether complementary practices such as Pilates or pelvic floor exercises are incorporated to support ongoing strength and function.
Important Information: Phone and laptop use is contraindicated during Emsella treatment because the chair uses High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology, which can:
- Interfere with electronic devices, potentially causing malfunction or data loss.
- Disrupt the electromagnetic field, reducing the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Pose a safety risk due to the interaction between strong magnetic pulses and metal components within devices.
